with his song “World Without Fences”

The NEA Eco Music Challenge 2011, which ran for 3 months, concluded with a big bang on 27 August 2011 as Lee Fengheng emerged as the winner among 13 talented finalists with the winning song “World Without Fences”. This winning song will be the Clean and Green Singapore 2012’s official theme song, which will be launched with an accompanying music video at the Clean and Green Singapore 2012 Launch Ceremony on 29 October 2011.

One of the judges, Danny Loong, Chief Creative Director and Co-Founder of Timbre Group, said “I was very impressed not only by the creativity and quality of the finalists this year, but more so the diversity of music genres and styles presented. This goes to show that the music scene is indeed maturing and I cannot wait for what is in store next.”.

Winner of Eco Music Challenge 2011, Lee Fengheng said, “This is all very surreal, I cannot believe the result because although this is actually the second song-writing competition I have entered, I did not even make it to the finals for the first one. It has been an invaluable experience with the mentors and I have forged meaningful friendships with all my fellow contestants. I hope to be able to pursue my music education next and keep composing great music!”

Coming from all walks of life, the finalists performed their eco songs to an enthusiastic crowd during the finale

The 13 finalists of the Eco Music Challenge wowed the crowd with their eclectic display of musical talents and melodies that inspire an environmentally friendly lifestyle. The top winners are:

Top prize winner: Lee Fengheng (World Without Fences)
1st runner-up: Julian Kwok (Love for Planet Earth)
2nd runner-up: Darren Lee (早安你好! aka Good Morning!)

The finale concert not only marked the successful celebration of environmental music by the winners, it was also a meaningful time for the Nature Society (Singapore) as they were presented with a cheque of $10,400. This amount was raised by The Eco Music Challenge Album sales initiative. The music album was launched to promote the songs of the Season 1 finalists and all proceeds were given to the Nature Society (Singapore) to support the appreciation and study of nature at Semakau Landfill.

"Nature Society (Singapore) is impressed with the musical creativity of the young people who entered this competition. We are honoured to receive the proceeds from the album sales and will in turn, use it to show school children the wondrous creativity of nature. The donation will fund guided walks at Semakau Landfill, for as many of our Singapore school children as possible.  We wish to give them a firsthand experience and an understanding of the fascinating natural heritage of Singapore," said Honorary Secretary of the Nature Society (Singapore), Ms Margie Hall.
