RECYCLING DAY
The 5th Recycling Day was successfully held on 15 Nov 08 at the main event site at Yuhua Village (Jurong East) and3 other satellite locations - Hougang Central Hub, Blk 123 Bukit Merah View and Yio Chu Kang Secondary School.
Jointly organised with our partners, the 4 Public Waste Collectors (PWCs), schools, businesses, People's Associationand grassroots organizations, Waste Management and Recycling Association of Singapore, and SingaporeEnvironment Council, the event promotes awareness among residents to do their bit for the environment throughfun-filled games, exhibitions, contests, quizzes, stage performances and magic shows on the 3R - reduce, reuse,recycle.
| AtYuhua Village, NEA had worked with Yuhua CCC to integrate Recycling Day and CGS@Yuhua - Recycling as one event. Following the launch of the Weekly Cash-for-Trash Recycling Programme by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Yacoob Ibrahim, together with Senior Minister of State (MND & MOE) and MP for Jurong GRC, Ms Grace Fu, and SPS (MEWR) and Mayor of SWCDC, Dr Amy Khor, and Yuhua grassroots leaders, planted 12 trees to commemorate Clean and Green Singapore. |

Weighing the recyclables for Champion Recycler |
Another key event was the island-wide Champion Recycler contest. The response was overwhelming and the top recycler brought in 2150kg of recyclables, and in the process, bagged the top prize of $300 worth of NTUC vouchers. In the Top Drink Carton Recycler contest, the winner was awarded $250 worth of NTUC vouchers sponsored by Tetra Pak Jurong Pte Ltd. |
Other contests to whet up participation were the 3R Photojournalism Competition, 3R Poster Competition, Pre-school Colouring Competition and Use Less Packaging Stage Contest.
