Operation M.A.C.E. makes debut at Clean & Green Singapore Schools' Carnival 2009
Not only was the Carnival held at a Primary School this year, it also saw the launch of NEA’s new outreach programme – “Operation M.A.C.E” (Monster Annihilation and Control Enforcement). This inaugural programme serves to promote Dengue Awareness among the young and the Internet savvy.
Our Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Dr Amy Khor officially launched “Operation M.A.C.E.” at the Schools’ Carnival. Participants who attended the event were intrigued by the impressive character designs, high tech website and online games as well as the programme’s 'recruitment' memorabilia. To top it all, there were guest appearances 'GUY' and 'SYPHER' that won the crowd over. 'Bustin' Mozzies has never been this cool!'NEA CEO, Mr

Over 210 schools, from preschool to pre-tertiary levels, participated in this year’s CGS Schools’ Carnival as compared to the 190 schools last year at Suntec City. More than 10,000 students, teachers and parents thronged the carnival, which was organized with the support of Anchor Green Primary School and NEA’s long-standing partner, the National Youth Achievement Award Council.

Carnival Highlights
Strong and sustained support from NEA’s partners
35 new partners were recognized for coming on board the Corporate And School Partnership (CASP) programme. CASP encourages corporate companies to groom young environmental leaders from schools to initiate joint environmental programmes. In addition, 42 Certificates of Sustained Partnerships were also presented to long-term partners who have sustained their partnership with their adopted school for 3 and 5 years respectively.

Resource Conservation Badge
As part of the NEA’s efforts in promoting 3R (Reduce, Reuse & Recycle) and energy efficiency, the launch of the Resource Conservation (RC) Badge was held on the second day of the CGS Schools’ Carnival. Mr Tan Cheng Kiong, Chief Commissioner from the Singapore Scouts Association, graced the occasion.
By participating in the badge programme, the students will gain knowledge on environmental issues and take responsibility in caring and sustaining our clean and green environment.

Recycling Outreach Programme Award
This year, the Recycling Outreach Programme (ROP) Award was introduced to encourage recycling initiatives in schools and their surrounding community. The ROP Award winners got a chance to showcase their initiatives and their projects at the Carnival. Six primary and secondary schools attained the award and were recognized for their efforts in implementing and sustaining their 3R initiatives.
Pre-school Wonderland
A section of the Schools’ Carnival - Wonderland - was specially set aside just for preschoolers, where they could take part in games and hands-on activities developed just for them by the Wonderland co-organisers. By learning through play and having fun at the same time, preschoolers were able to pick up good habits and tips on how to be a responsible citizen in keeping our environment clean and green.
Build-up Competitions
Two new Build-up competitions – Alternative Energy Car (AEC) Challenge and the Environmental Cyber Shoot out were the highlights of Schools’ Carnival 2009, showing that NEA and its partners are always thinking of novel and engaging ways to reach out to the youth of today so as to instill a sense of environmental ownership in them.

NEA is looking forward to working closely with schools, industry and NGO partners to bring you an even more exciting carnival next year. In the meantime, look out for the gallery of photographs from the carnival, which will be uploaded onto the CGS website athttp://www.cgs.sgin a couple of week’s time.
