These environment advocates will be empowered to plan and implement environmental programmes, coordinate with volunteers on programme implementation, create platforms for sharing green cultures and recruit more volunteers for green events. More importantly, the role of the Green Champions will be to foster a culture of taking personal responsibility and to cultivate community ownership for the environment on a collective level. The objective will be to nurture a mindset shift so that the environment can become everyone's shared responsibility.
Dr Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of North West District, says, "With the appointment of the 14 Green Champions today, we look forward to seeing more community-initiated green movements, with more people practising clean and green habits that will benefit both residents' health and the environment."
The theme for this year's Clean & Green Singapore (CGS) @ North West! is 'A Cleaner & Greener Home, A Healthier You', where we aim to encourage more residents to practise good personal, food and public hygiene, in order to be cleaner, greener and healthier.
