NEA-MediaCorp Semakau Run 2011
The Semakau Run 2011, jointly organised by NEA and Mediacorp, took place on 8 October. As an anchor programme of Clean and Green Singapore, Semakau Run is in its fifth year and some 200 corporate participants and guests took part in the competitive 5-km run or the 1.3-km leisure walk.
The Guest-of-Honour (GOH), our Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan flagged off both the run and walk segments and took part in the 5-km run as well.
MediaCorp artiste Jade Seah and Gold 90.5FM deejay Tim Oh were emcees for the event and their presence added much star appeal. They led the participants in warm-up exercises and took part in the 1.3-km leisure walk.

A total of $280,000 was generously donated by 23 companies and a foundation. The amount will go towards helping 5 beneficiaries, namely the Singapore Environment Council, Nature Society (Singapore), Children’s Cancer Foundation, HCA Hospice Care and APSN Katong School.
As an appreciation to the donors for their generous donations, Platinum and Gold donors were invited on stage to receive a crystal memento from the GOH. The ceremony ended with a cheque presentation by the GOH to representatives from the five beneficiaries.

As a run-up to the Semakau Run, a nature photography contest was also earlier held at Semakau Landfill on 17 September 2011. The contest was organized by the Nature Society (Singapore) with the support of NEA. Some 44 ITE students took part in the contest, which hopes to instill in the youths a sense of environmental ownership and inspire them to play a greater role towards a sustainable development in Singapore. A total of 379 entries were received, among which 10 entries, consisting of top 3 winners as well as 7 merit winners, were selected by the judges, professional photographers Mr Morten Strange and Mr Con Foley. The winning photo was taken by S Dinesh from ITE College Central.
Ms Grace Fu, Senior Minister of State, presented certificates and cash prizes to the winners and their photos were also displayed at the dining area.

After the run and ceremony, all participants were treated to a sumptuous dinner at the seafront of Semakau Landfill.
