North East Litter-Free Ambassador
North East District now has Litter-Free Ambassadors in all 17 constituencies. It's a 100% increase in the line up since the launch of the new anti-littering campaign. The 243 newly-minted LFAs includes youths and young parents. Their numbers are still growing. The LFA's approach is to beget 500 volunteers by the end of the year to reach out to residents within the District.

LFAs made their debut at the Aljunied Zero litter campaign activity on Sunday, 4th July. The Guest of Honour was Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, MP for Aljuned GRC and Mr Andrew Tan, CEO(NEA) was special guest. The LFAs joined CEO and GOH in reminding residents on the importance of binning litters and smokers to responsibly bin cigarette butts by using the portable ashtrays handed out to them. Aljunied GRC handed out 2,000 portable ashtrays during the event.
The second leg of our LFA movement took place on Sunday 24th July during the "Keep North East Clean & Beautiful" event at Punggol Secondary School. Together with student LFAs, there commitments were made to drive the anti-litter efforts in neighbourhoods.

A sampling of the LFA's approach:
• Focus on their own neighbourhoods to identify situational binners and educate them to bin litter responsibly.
• Convert situational binners to be LFAs themselves to increase the LFA pool by a multiplier effect.
• Patrol neighbourhoods for messy and unkempt sites and report these to town councils.
• Target badly littered spots and work on these to achieve cleanliness.

During the event, our LFAs made a commitment to reduce messy and unkempt sites by 20% in North East district. They felt that if the Singapore River could be cleaned up in 10 years, we could likewise achieve a pristine environment. Going by our LFAs enthusiasm, North East district is likely to get cleaner in the days to come.
