The inaugural South West ECo Awards were presented to Singapore Polytechnic (community category), Nan Hua High School (community category) and SMRT Corporation (corporate category) for their active contribution towards environmental and community sustainability in the South West district.
Featuring original songs written by home-grown talents from the NEA Eco Music Challenge held in October last year, the Eco Music Challenge Season 1 music album is an exciting debut compilation of different music genres ranging from jazz, pop and soft rock to contemporary folk. In addition to the songs written by the talented thirteen finalists, the album also includes two bonus tracks:
• The Chinese rendition of the CGS 2011 theme song ‘Heaven on Earth’ entitled ‘绿色世界’ performed by the winner, Shawn Tok and finalists of Channel U’s singing competition Campus Superstar 2007
• The CGS 2010 theme song ‘Let’s Make Our World the Most Beautiful Home’ by veteran composer-singer Clement Chow
The agency is also pleased to have Jill-Marie Thomas, winner of Channel 5’s hit reality show One Moment of Glory! (OMG!) lending her vocals to the Clean and Green Singapore 2011 theme song, “Heaven On Earth”. Jill-Marie, who is passionate about the environment, first injected her own soft rock flavour to the CGS 2011 theme song when she performed at the Marina Bay countdown celebration @ the Floating Platform in front of more than 2,000 enthusiastic youths.
With this album and the Eco Music Challenge, NEA hopes to continue using music in a creative manner to nurture the youth to be more environmental conscious as well as to inspire the community to cherish the beautiful environment and sustain it for future generations.
The Eco Music Challenge Season 1 music album is now on sale at a very attractive price of $11.90 at the NEA Customer Service Centre, Level 2, Environment Building. Alternatively,
the songs can be purchased online at http://www.nea.ecomusic.sg/jukebox. With the online option, you can choose to purchase a single song at only $0.99 OR at a special price of $9.90 for the full album.
There is a greater reason to support the album as all proceeds will go to the Nature Society (Singapore) to support the appreciation and study of nature at Semakau Landfill.
"Organising a song-writing competition is not only an innovative way to reach young people, but is also in tune with the range and diversity of natural sound. Nature Society (Singapore) appreciates the chance to show the huge biodiversity of the land and intertidal areas of Pulau Semakau and the developing biodiversity of Semakau Landfill to students and the general public which is afforded by NEA's generous donation." said Justin Wong, Executive Officer at Nature Society (Singapore).
The agency hopes to raise $10,000 from this initiative. So hurry and grab your copy of the album today!
The Season 2 of Eco Music Challenge will be launched on 18 April 2011. For those who are interested to submit their entries, please visit www.nea.ecomusic.sg for details.
