Central Singapore Clean & Green Carnival – Safeguard, Nurture & Cherish
Engaging People, Private and Public to adopt a Clean & Green lifestyle
Larger-than-life exhibitions set against a coloured backdrop, along with the exuberant stage performances, were a sight not to be missed at this year’s Central Singapore Clean and Green Carnival. This two-day event was held on 5 and 6 November 2011 at United Square Shopping Mall.
This year’s theme, “Everything is connected. Together we care for our environment!”, struck a chord with the masses, especially the parents and children, and helped reinforce environmental messages through fun-filled activities, interactive games and enthralling exhibitions.

Launch of S.W.I.T.C.H. with Maybank @ Central Singapore (Simple Ways I Take to Change my Habits)
S.W.I.T.C.H. with Maybank @ Central Singapore, which stands for “Simple Ways I Take to Change my Habits”, was also launched at the Carnival to assist needy families to save money in light of the current economic climate.
This multi-agency, three-year collaboration between Central Singapore CDC, NEA Central Regional Office and Maybank Singapore, was launched by Guest-of-Honour Assoc Prof Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, Mayor for Central Singapore Mr Sam Tan, CEO of NEA Mr Andrew Tan and CEO of Maybank Ms Pollie Sim. The programme aims to install energy-saving light bulbs for the 4,000 low-income households residing in one- to two-room rental blocks in the Central Singapore district by end 2014. Low-income families benefitting from this programme are expected to save up to $40 annually each in electricity bills. Maybank Singapore will fund the purchase of the light bulbs through a “Switch to e-statement” initiative, through which it pledges $1 for each of its customers who switch from paper statements to electronic statements. A sum of $10,000 is expected to be raised annually for the programme.

Launch of D.A.R.T.S. @ Central Singapore (Dengue Alert to Residents Through SMS)
Another attraction at the Carnival was the launch of D.A.R.T.S. (Dengue Alert to Residents Through SMS) @ Central Singapore, a dengue prevention awareness programme for Central Singapore residents that leverages on the ubiquity and convenience of mobile phones to alert residents on the presence of dengue clusters in Central Singapore district through SMS notifications. This service is completely free and residents can subscribe to it by sending an SMS with the details “Darts, Name, Address, Postal Code” to 9240 7998. This initiative introduced by NEA Central Regional Office and Central Singapore CDC also serves as an additional platform to raise awareness on dengue prevention and complements all existing efforts to fight dengue on the ground.
