LAUNCH OF CLEAN & GREEN SINGAPORE 2011
Organised by the NEA and North East CDC, the CGS 2011 Carnival was held on 6 and 7 November 2010, focusing on instilling a sense of pride and ownership of the environment in the community, so as to encourage Singaporeans to do their part in sustaining a Clean and Green Singapore.
The Carnival and the year-long CGS 2011 Campaign were launched by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 6 November 2010 at the open field next to Sengkang Square. In his speech, PM called for the “Total Defence” concept to be applied to protecting the environment. Noting that the theme this year is Promoting Environmental Ownership, PM spoke on how individuals, organisations as well as the Government can do their part in caring for the environment, especially young Singaporeans. PM urged everyone to work together to build a beautiful Singapore that we can proudly call home. This can only be achieved through the collective efforts of the public, private and people sectors to safeguard, nurture and cherish our environment.
