Central Singapore Clean & Green Carnival – Safeguard, Nurture & Cherish

Larger-than-life exhibitions set against a coloured backdrop, along with the exuberant stage performances, were a sight not to be missed at this year’s Central Singapore Clean and Green Carnival. This two-day event was held on 5 and 6 November 2011 at United Square Shopping Mall.

The focus for this year’s Clean & Green Singapore (CGS) 2012 is to instil community pride and ownership of the environment, starting with the individual.

 

NEA-MediaCorp Semakau Run 2011

The Semakau Run 2011, jointly organised by NEA and Mediacorp, took place on 8 October. As an anchor programme of Clean and Green Singapore, Semakau Run is in its fifth year and some 200 corporate participants and guests took part in the competitive 5-km run or the 1.3-km leisure walk.

 

 

NEA ECO MUSIC CHALLENGE 2011 FINALE UNVEILED THE CLEAN AND GREEN SINGAPORE 2012 SONG

The NEA Eco Music Challenge 2011, which ran for 3 months, concluded with a big bang on 27 August 2011 as Lee Fengheng emerged as the winner among 13 talented finalists with the winning song “World Without Fences”. This winning song will be the Clean and Green Singapore 2012’s official theme song, which will be launched with an accompanying music video at the Clean and Green Singapore 2012 Launch Ceremony on 29 October 2011.

 

 

Read environmental information on the go with NEA’s first iPhone app – myENV

NEA is proud to launch its new iPhone application on 5 July 2011 that can be downloaded from App Store for free. Known as myENV, which stands for “My Environment”, this application provides useful information on the environment to the public, such as air quality, weather information, as well as dengue clusters. They can also check on the gradings of food caterers and search for licensed pest control operators. Users can also provide feedback to NEA by sending pictures of environmental lapses which will be attended to in the same way any feedback is sent to the agency.

 

 

Recycling Week 2011

Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan launched Recycling Week 2011 on 4 June 2011 at Tampines Central, in conjunction with World Environment Day (5 June 2011). Recycling Week 2011 was organised by NEA in partnership with the Public Waste Collectors, Town Councils, National Library Board (NLB), the People’s Association, schools and grassroots organisations.

A series of activities, were organised between 4 – 11 June to spread the 3R message such as story-telling at NLB libraries and MediaCorp’s car boot sale at Marina Square. Three community outreach events were held at Toa Payoh Central, Bukit Batok East Point and Chong Pang Community Club on 11 June 2011 to wrap up Recycling Week.

 

 

To Heal Earth! 2011

To Heal Earth! (THE!) is a two-day summit slated for a weekend in July. It is tagged: “THE! Movement to Rescue our Earth”. The aim of this maiden edition is to inculcate affection for the environment into participants and educate them through inventive methods on the need to adopt eco-friendly practices in daily living.

Launch of Little Green Ambassadors @ South West: A Green Milestone for Preschoolers

LGA is the first large-scale green collaboration by DFS, South West CDC, NEA (SWRO) and SEC, involving 109 preschools and up to 12,000 young children between ages of 3 and 6 in the South West district. Lasting for three months, (from 21 April 2011 to 30 June 2011), this initiative celebrates Earth Day and aims to inculcate good green habits in children from a young age.

S.W.I.T.C.H. to eStatement and Save the Earth!

“SWITCH to eStatement” is a collaboration between NEA CRO, Central Singapore CDC as well as corporate partner Maybank Singapore. Maybank Singapore will be donating $1 to the Maybank Family Fund for every customer who switches to electronic banking statements, up to a maximum of $10,000. All funds raised will be used for energy-saving light bulbs for low-income families in the Central Singapore District, helping them to reduce their energy consumption and save on their utility bills. S.W.I.T.C.H. volunteers will also assist to install the energy saving light bulbs for the families.

This fresh initiative will not only benefit the low income families, but also cut down on the paper usage, hence mitigating and reducing Maybank’s carbon footprint.

Project Semakau - Launch of 'Living Shores' Secondary School Workbook and Public Education Booklet

Project Semakau is a community initiative by HSBC in partnership with Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research (RMBR) of NUS and supported by NEA.  It is a three-year project to promote and conserve the inter-tidal shores of Pulau Semakau by conducting a dedicated programme of outreach and research activities with the help of volunteers.

NEA-MediaCorp Semakau Run 2010

The NEA-MediaCorp Semakau Run 2010 at the Semakau Landfill is a platform for businesses to demonstrate their corporate social responsibility towards the environment and the community. A unique charity run on an operational landfill, the event aims to raise funds to support local environmental Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), social service charities and Union in their community outreach programmes.

The annual EcoFriend Awards were developed and launched in 2007 by NEA to give recognition to the growing number of individuals from all the 3P sectors of our society - Private, Public and People – who have taken the initiative to care for the environment on their own accord. 8 outstanding individuals were honoured at the Ceremony, receiving their awards from Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim.

NEA Eco Music Challenge 2010

The Eco Music Challenge is organised by the National Environment Agency to encourage aspiring song writers to inspire others to appreciate and protect our beautiful environment through music. Write a green song and stand to win the following prizes:

  • 1st Prize: S$5,000

  • 3rd Prize: S$2,000

National Sustainability Conference 2010

The Office of Environmental Sustainability (OES), National University of Singapore and the Workplace Research Centre (WRC), University of Sydney are jointly organising The National Sustainability Conference 2010, entitled "Environmental Up-Skilling & the Green Collar Economy". Launch of Anti-Littering Campaign

The National Environment Agency will launch the anti-littering campaign on 6 June 2010 at Open Plaza, Plaza Singapura. The new campaign aims to instil in everyone a sense of responsibility towards keeping the environment clean. At the Launch event, a group of youth Litter-Free Ambassadors will engage the public to make a pledge to bin their litter for a clean and beautiful Singapore.

10% Energy Challenge Fair 2010

In 2008, NEA launched the 10% Energy Challenge campaign which aims to get Singaporeans to reduce household electricity use by 10%! This is done through a range of platforms such as an annual Energy Challenge Fair showcasing a wide range of energy saving products and special discounts for the household.

For two years running, the campaign has been effective in encouraging more Singaporeans to adopt energy-saving habits. This year, NEA has decided to up the ante by organizing a bigger and more exciting Energy Challenge fair! Come down to the Energy Challenge Fair 2010 to learn more!

2009 EcoFriend Awards

Surrounded by the natural beauty of the park, 10 outstanding individuals were honoured at the Ceremony, receiving their awards from Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim.

The annual EcoFriend Awards were developed and launched in 2007 by NEA to give recognition to the growing number of individuals from all the 3P sectors of our society - Private, Public and People – who have taken the initiative to care for the environment on their own accord. This year's recipients, including three of NEA's Youth Environment Envoys, were selected from 282 nominations.

We salute and congratulate our 2009 EcoFriend recipients.

Nominations for the 2010 EcoFriend Awards will open in January 2010, and nomination forms will be made available at www.nea.gov.sg/ecofriend then. We encourage all our partners to nominate deserving individuals for the Awards.

Green Carnival 2009

Students Against Violation of the Earth (SAVE) is the main environmental student organization in NUS to raise environmental consciousness of NUS undergraduates and the public. Since 2006, the Green Carnival has been SAVE's flagship platform to raise environmental awareness and mobilize NUS community to translate awareness into action for the environment annually.

With a belief that every member in the NUS community need to take concerted efforts to mitigate climate change, SAVE formulated the theme of Green Carnival 2009 to be "NUS Fights Climate Change, What About You?". On 7 September 2009, the Green Carnival would be launched at NUS Central Forum. A series of activities would be carried out, including a NUS Votes for Earth! campaign, a Climate Crisis symposium, Climate Change Exhibition and a Dialogue Session between students and the NUS administration.

NEA-MediaCorp Semakau Run

The Semakau Run was inaugurated on 17 November 2007 at Semakau Landfill. It was the first-ever run on an operational landfill that raises funds for environmental causes. Apart from fulfilling NEA’s corporate social responsibility, the event also strengthens partnerships with the business community in caring for the environment and community. Funds raised will assist and support Environmental NGOs to develop and improve community environmental protection programmes. NEA is partnering MediaCorp this year, to not only support environmental causes, but also social service charities for the less fortunate communities.

Youth Eco-Fiesta 2009 To Commemorate World Environment Day

The Youth Eco-Fiesta 2009 commemorates World Environment Day with a night full of song and dance performances. Through a fusion of rhythm and beats, talents of young Singaporeans will be showcased while giving them a platform to share their environmental messages with peers and residents of Tampines GRC. The Youth Eco-Fiesta 2009 will be held at the Tampines Festival Park (next to Blk 257) on Saturday, 6 June 2009 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Guests will also be given the opportunity to view an exhibition by the National Parks Board on Singapore Biodiversity Trail, and the Envirobuzz which is a one-stop interactive learning journey on the environment.

National Youth EnvirOlympics Challenge 2009 cum YOUTHphoria

The National Youth EnvirOlympics Challenge (NYEC) will be bringing the message of incorporating healthy GREEN habits into people's lifestyle to a new level! With more exciting challenges on a much greater scale, NYEC 2009 will not just be an amazing race, but will comprise of 3 activities: En-Art, En-Mazing Race and Enviro-Cyclethon. After setting the Singapore record in 2008, the committee will also bring the challenge further by aiming to set a Guinness World Record and run a YOUTHphoria this year.

Semakau Corporate & Environmental Outreach (CEO) RUN

Held at Singapore's only offshore landfill, Semakau Island, the event successfully raised $407,000 to benefit our 6 local environmental Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), which run community environmental protection programmes.
